Fitness

There is no one-size-fits-all exercise programme. What your programme looks like at Lanes depends on your abilities, preferences and strengths. Our exercise professionals draw on the full spectrum of fitness modalities, from cardio and strength to yoga, T’ai Chi, dance, flexibility, balance and more…

Swimming

At Lanes we have a 25-metre pool that comes with no children – apart from 3.30pm to 5pm daily – which means you can plough up and down to your hearts’ content. We also hold regular varied Aqua Classes in the pool.

If you forget your towel, we’ve got some at the front desk to hire £1.50. You can also have as many as you like each month as part of our monthly towel hire at £10 a month .

Swimming Lessons

We offer Adult Swimming lessons, both one-to-one and group lessons. Our lessons are tailored to your personal needs, whether you’re a complete beginner, wanting to perfect your stroke or are in training for an event.

What’s your ‘why’?

Everyone’s attitude to exercise is different. You might be a happy couch potato or a hill-striding dog-walker. You might have belonged to lots of health clubs or none at all. At Lanes, what we’re really interested in is finding out what’s motivating you to exercise now.

Does any of the following strike a chord? If it does, you’re in the right place!

Absolute beginners
If you’re new to the world of health clubs, Lanes is your home. You’re a dream member – because you haven’t developed any bad habits!

Weekend warriors
Loads of people want a programme that enhances their sporting performance.

Travel bugs
You want to be fit enough to travel the world.

Sandwich generation
Exercise increases energy – crucial for busy sandwichers who are caring for children, parents (and sometimes grandkids, too).

Stressed out
We’ve all been there – exercise is one of the best stress busters there is.

Adjusting to the menopause
We understand (only too well) the physical and emotional changes that can come before, during and after the menopause. We can help you adapt or adopt new exercise routines in response to those changes.

Pelvic floor improvement
This is a common goal for women and the right exercises can make significant improvements to pelvic floor strength.

Moderating chronic conditions
Health issues such as heart disease or dementia impose physical and emotional demands. We understand and we’ll work with you to improve how you feel.

Doctor’s orders
We’re home to many who’ve had that GP discussion. The one that goes, ‘Your blood pressure/cholesterol is too high’ or ‘You’re borderline pre-diabetic’. We get it.

Fit for purpose
You want to be fit enough to deal with life’s daily (and varied) demands.

Brain health
You want to improve your cognitive function. We have a 5-week BrainFit programme ready and waiting.

Personal training

We have a comprehensive personal training option for our members, giving you one-on-one, individual attention. Our personal trainers draw on gym-based activities and disciplines including yoga, dance and physiotherapy to create tailored and meaningful exercise programmes.

When you first join

The first thing we do when you become part of Lanes is listen to you (the induction). We want to understand what you want from your membership: why you decided to join, the physical activities you enjoy and whether you have any aches, pains or physical complaints that can be helped by finding the right exercise. Once we know what drives you we can create your wellbeing plan.

Let’s get physio

One of the joys of exercise is that it strengthens our bodies and keeps us away from the physio’s couch. But even the fittest and hardiest amongst us sometimes incur injuries. So, we work with a number of physios and massage therapists who you can call on for everything from breakdown recovery to a full service.
